Small Towns of the Meseta

We spend the early morning (6:30am-9am) watching the sun rise and our shadows appear across fields of wheat. Fresh bodies grow tired as we look for that next town with an open bar. This morning it was a long way; over 12 km (7.2 miles) before the next town appeared. By then feet and backs were sore. Finding a coffee Americano and a chocolate Neopolitano and taking off the shoes to let the socks dry makes the difference and after 20-30 minutes we are ready to carry on. It’s about 180km to cross the Meseta. Tomorrow we reach Leon.

The hiking pole pushes the shadows along,

80 to 200 hundred people inhabit many small towns. Walking down the middle of the street is no problem.

Storks return each year to the same nest.

Wheat and more wheat.

  1. Buen Camino, Wayne and Karen. Each day your journey continues and seemingly small elements, cafe Americano, storks and sleeping villages move your day along. I look forward to reading more of your story as you walk together, sharing the Camino.
